Pick a Park – Saskatchewan’s Best Kept Secrets – Nipawin & District Regional Park

Nipawin & District Regional Park is our Pick a Park profile this week.  Our owners, Susan and Gene Minard, recently spent a week there, enjoying all the park has to offer and were glad to share some pics of their visit!  The park is less than 3 kilometres from the town of Nipawin and borders the Tobin Lake portion of the Saskatchewan River, which makes it a desirable destination for avid walleye fishermen.

Established in June of 1965, the park opened its doors in 1968 with just over 25 campsites. It has since expanded to more than 180 serviced sites and is recognized as one of the largest maintained regional parks in the province. The park is open for the camping season from May 15th to October 12th however the park sees activity year-round because of its groomed tree lined trails which attract cross country skiers, and snowmobilers alike.

Surrounded by nature with over 300 square acres of mature trees, this park is made for bikers and hikers, however they have also chosen to be as inclusive as possible and worked to make the park more accessible. It features campsites with level gravel, a wheelchair accessible store, visitor information center, washrooms and showers. Site 14 is uniquely dedicated to being reserved and booked as a handicap accessible site.

Nipawin & District Regional Park’s claim to fame is having some of the best walleye fishing in North America, attracting fishing enthusiasts from far and wide! The park features a boat launch and a fish filleting house for added convenience. In addition to all the campsites there are cabins and houseboats available for rent.

For those looking for other activities, the park offers hiking and biking trails with incredible views, mini golf, a large playground, and a spray park for children. There is also a swinging bridge, a zip line, and the Red Barn Petting Zoo!

Looking for the perfect gathering place for meetings, weddings, reunions or family gathering? The park has a charming chalet that features a kitchen, large dining/seating area, washrooms, picnic table and outdoor firepit.

Any golf lovers in your group?  Nipawin’s Evergreen 18-hole Golf Course has been rated as one of the top 100 public courses in Canada and one of the top 5 courses in Saskatchewan.

A park for all seasons and reasons, this hidden gem is one to explore!
